Yoga Energy
Work
Your body is a barometer and reflection of what's going on all levels of your
awareness; mental, emotional, perceptual and may also be affected by the energy of your immediate environment and
people you are connected to in your life.
In yoga practice and classes what you are really doing is managing your energy.
First, checking in to determine how you feel energetically ie, strong or week, high or low energy and second, using
your yoga practice to manage and possibly change and transform your energy system at any given moment so that you
may function at a much higher level and be less affected by external stimulants and stressors.
Everywhere your thoughts go a hook or chord of your energy goes. You literally
process through your body and nervous system the energy and information of whom and what you are hooked in
to.
The first stage of centering and balancing is unplugging from external stressors:
1) Close your eyes, go inside and unplug from the day behind you. Unplugging from
children, spouses clients co-workers any media you've take in and any conversations you've had.
Often people hook into you energetically in your solar plexus. Lovingly take those
hooks and chords out and hand them back to them. If you want you can pick them up again after class. (I doubt if
you'll want to).
2) Unplug from your day and week ahead of you. You're bringing your energy into
present space and time.
When you live in the past or in the future you lose energy from the top of the
head (your seventh chakra).
3) If you are sitting upright use your sit bones and tailbone like a three pronged
plug and plug into the earths energy. The earths vibration resonates with your first chakra center located at the
pelvic floor. Allow the earth to hold you and receive the support of the earths energy. Give to the earth on exhale
all the stresses you need to release and let go of.
4) Breathing deeply using the Ujjayia
breath begin to grow your core
up (the space from pelvic floor to inner top of the skull).
Stack one vertebra on top of the one below and grow it up, breathe it up, command
length thru your core. Breathe into each area; pelvis, lumbar spine (top of hips or waist to low ribs, lower
thoracic spine (from low ribs to heart), upper thoracic spine (from heart to bottom of neck), cervical spine (neck)
and feel for using whatever musculature in each respective area to create length and awareness without struggling
or straining.
Ideally each area of your body (except the neck) does its respective job so other
areas don't have to overwork and strain.
5) Scanning and feeling your core with your breath, feel for any areas which you
feel week, unconscious or where you are being drained or losing energy from.
6) Ask you mind body (it will tell you - trust) to what thoughts, people, dramas,
fears and challenges in your life you are losing energy to and unplug from it.
7) Call your spirit, your power, your energy back. You wouldn't lose it if you
didn't allow your energy to leave you! Breathe into the area and energize it.
8) Set your intention. If you could have absolutely anything for that are of your
body: to feel it, heal it, bring it alive, receive its' wisdom (your ultimate aspirations) what would it be - then
breathe you intention into the energetic and cellular level.
9) Let it go - let the magic begin!
Now you're ready to breathe and move.
